Malaika is a lifelong student of personal and collective healing. With a professional background in higher education and leadership, she has spent decades advocating for inclusive communities. But it was her own journey — of unlearning, healing, and returning to her body — that led her to the mat.
After years of navigating high-stress environments and the weight of systemic expectations, Malaika began to explore deeper forms of healing. Through meditation, journaling, float therapy, Reiki, and eventually yoga, she experienced what it meant to re-inhabit her body with compassion and care. Yoga became not just a practice — but another path back to herself.
As a teacher, Malaika brings a grounded, soulful presence to the studio. Her classes integrate the wisdom of African and diasporic traditions, gentle movement, affirmations, and storytelling. She believes that yoga is a practice of remembering — of returning to wholeness, reclaiming joy, and reconnecting to the sacred wisdom within.
Malaika is honored to share space with students at the Toledo Mindfulness Institute, where healing meets community and the possibility of liberation.
